Blockchain Technology for IoT Security and Trust: A Comprehensive SLR
S. Almarri
Abstract
This systematic literature review provides a rigorous analysis of the intersection between blockchain technology and IoT security. The authors evaluate existing frameworks, identifying how distributed ledger technology can address vulnerabilities inherent in centralized IoT architectures, such as single points of failure and data tampering. By analyzing diverse research methodologies and implementation scenarios, the paper clarifies the current state of decentralized security protocols. It synthesizes findings on how blockchain enhances trust, authenticity, and authorization in resource-constrained environments. The significance of this study lies in its classification of research gaps and its evaluation of performance trade-offs, providing researchers with a roadmap for future development in secure decentralized systems.
Key Findings
- 1Centralized IoT infrastructures are inherently susceptible to single points of failure.
- 2Blockchain integration provides a decentralized trust layer that significantly improves data integrity.
- 3Performance trade-offs remain the primary barrier to blockchain implementation in low-power IoT devices.
- 4Standardized security architectures are required to facilitate interoperability across diverse IoT ecosystems.
