Decentralized artificial intelligence in construction using blockchain
C. Zheng
Abstract
This paper applies the concepts of decentralized artificial intelligence and blockchain to the construction industry, aiming to solve issues related to trust, data transparency, and project coordination. The author proposes a blockchain-enabled platform that utilizes AI agents to automate procurement, monitor site safety via image processing, and manage building information modeling (BIM) data. The core contribution is a framework for ensuring that data provided by IoT devices and AI models is stored on an immutable ledger, preventing disputes during construction project lifecycles. The methodology involves a pilot simulation demonstrating how smart contracts can automatically execute payments upon AI-verified project milestones. The study demonstrates that this integration reduces administrative overhead and enhances accountability among stakeholders. The results indicate significant potential for the automation of complex multi-party project management tasks, though the author notes that high costs and technical complexity currently limit mass adoption in the industry.
Key Findings
- 1Blockchain ensures the integrity of construction data generated by IoT and AI agents.
- 2Smart contracts can automate payments triggered by successful AI-monitored project milestones.
- 3Decentralized systems reduce contractual disputes by providing a single source of truth for all stakeholders.
- 4High initial costs and technical requirements serve as significant barriers to construction sector adoption.
