Privacy preserving transparent supply chain management through Hyperledger Fabric

S. S. Khatoon, A. A. Khan, Y. H. Hung

This paper explores the tension between transparency and data privacy within supply chain management, specifically leveraging the Hyperledger Fabric framework. The researchers address the challenge of providing product history to consumers while protecting the competitive secrets of manufacturers and distributors. Through a prototype implementation, the study demonstrates the efficacy of using channel partitioning and private data collections to ensure that sensitive business information remains confidential even on a shared ledger. The methodology involves a performance analysis of transaction throughput under varying privacy constraints. The results indicate that Hyperledger’s modular architecture provides sufficient flexibility to balance the conflicting requirements of public transparency and private enterprise logic. This research is significant for enterprise environments that prioritize confidentiality without sacrificing the benefits of immutable record-keeping.

Blockchain-based food supply chain traceability: a case study

F. Casino, T. K. Dasaklis, C. Patsakis

This research provides an in-depth case study on the application of blockchain technology to enhance food safety and traceability. The authors explore the logistical challenges of monitoring perishable goods across multiple jurisdictions, highlighting the role of blockchain in reducing food fraud and shortening recall response times. By deploying a decentralized application, the study assesses the feasibility of end-to-end tracking from producer to consumer. The research highlights the critical importance of IoT integration, where sensor data is anchored to the blockchain to verify storage conditions and chain-of-custody. The study concludes that while blockchain provides an excellent framework for data integrity, the physical-digital link remains a vulnerable point (the 'oracle problem'). This paper provides a practical assessment of real-world deployment limitations and the necessity for robust physical-digital authentication standards.

Blockchain Technology for Global Supply Chain

P. Dudczyk

This study examines the integration of blockchain technology within global supply chain networks, focusing on the reduction of information asymmetry and the enhancement of trust between disparate stakeholders. The author utilizes a comparative analysis of traditional database management versus decentralized ledger systems, highlighting the inherent benefits of cryptographic verification for auditing. The research explores the specific requirements for implementing a global-scale decentralized infrastructure, including the necessity for cross-border consensus mechanisms. The paper highlights the potential for blockchain to streamline customs and international trade compliance through automated verification. By analyzing the structural shift from centralized silos to shared ledger ecosystems, the author underscores the transformative potential of smart contracts in automating logistics workflows. The findings suggest that while technological maturity is rising, institutional alignment remains a prerequisite for success.
