Tokenize Everything, But Can You Sell It? RWA Liquidity Challenges and the Road Ahead

Rischan Mafrur

This paper tackles the 'liquidity myth' surrounding RWA tokenization. While technology allows for the fractionalization of assets, the author argues that market liquidity is a social and institutional phenomenon, not a purely technical one. By analyzing the order book dynamics and trading volume of existing RWA tokens, the paper identifies that most assets suffer from significant illiquidity despite being on-chain. The study explores the contributing factors, including the lack of market makers, regulatory barriers to entry, and the fragmentation of secondary markets. It proposes potential solutions, such as cross-protocol liquidity bridges and incentives for automated market makers (AMMs) that specialize in RWA. The research concludes that for RWA to reach its full potential, the industry must shift focus from the 'tokenization' aspect to the 'liquidity provision' aspect, ensuring that tokenized assets can be effectively traded in dynamic markets.

Tokenization of Real-World Assets (RWA): A Comprehensive Analysis of Technology Stacks, Platform Architectures, and Comparative Evaluation of Leading Tokenization Platforms

Jung-Hua Liu

This paper offers a deep dive into the technical architectures underpinning RWA tokenization platforms. The author compares different technology stacks, ranging from permissioned enterprise blockchains to public L2 networks, evaluating their security, scalability, and integration capabilities. The methodology involves a comparative analysis of leading platforms, scoring them on performance metrics and compliance features. A significant portion of the paper is dedicated to the 'Technology Stack' required for RWA, specifically the interplay between smart contract layers, data oracles, and off-chain storage/custody solutions. The study identifies which technical patterns have emerged as industry favorites and why. By dissecting the underlying architecture of major providers, the paper provides a roadmap for developers and enterprise architects to select the right platform based on their specific asset requirements, ensuring both operational efficiency and long-term security in a rapidly evolving ecosystem.

Asset Tokenization in Financial Markets: The Next Generation of Financial Infrastructure

World Economic Forum

This report by the World Economic Forum assesses the transformative potential of asset tokenization for the global financial system. The analysis examines how DLT-based infrastructure can improve efficiency, transparency, and market access. The WEF emphasizes that tokenization is not merely a technological upgrade but a fundamental shift in market structure that necessitates collaboration between public and private stakeholders. The document provides a framework for evaluating the business case for tokenization, considering factors such as clearing and settlement speed, capital efficiency, and operational risk. Furthermore, it addresses the policy implications, urging global harmonisation to prevent regulatory fragmentation. The report concludes with actionable recommendations for financial institutions and regulators, highlighting the importance of developing scalable, interoperable, and compliant DLT infrastructure to support the next generation of global capital markets.
